Remind is a communication platform that helps faculty reach and engage with their students and build the relationships that lead to better learning.

Faculty can use Remind as a course messaging tool to send students text messages, links to virtual meetings, files, and images. One of the many benefits of using Remind is that faculty and student individual cell phone numbers are kept private. Here are a few creative to use Remind in your courses.

  1. Remind students about class meeting times, critical due dates, etc.
  2. Send students trivia and warm-up questions before class.
  3. Send links to outside resources to supplement class materials.
  4. Offer encouragement and affirmations for hard work done.
  5. Invite student questions.

With the enhanced version of Remind that Vol State has, faculty can:

  • Have two-way text messaging between faculty and students without the sharing of personal cell phone numbers.
  • Share links, document attachments, and photos. You can attach any type of file under 10MB (PDF, .doc, .mp4, .gif, .png, .jpeg, etc) from web. Each voice clip can be up to 20 seconds.
  • Schedule messages ahead of time.
  • Create messages up to 600 text characters (an increase from the basic version).
  • Have voice calls without having access to personal phone numbers (note: direct dialing is not available within Remind).
  • Create student groups (up to 9 people) - students can text back and forth with faculty oversight.

Course Rosters and Accounts

Beginning Spring 2021, the Remind messaging option will automatically be created for each Vol State CRN-based course (excluding TN eCampus).

If you would like to employ the functionality of Remind for any of your courses, you can enable the Remind option at shortly after the semester begins. No more creating a class at or adding students, it is being done for you!

Please see this online article for instructions to claim your Remind account and courses: Set up a rostered account.
