Training and Development Workshops

The Office of Distance Learning offers training and professional development options throughout the year to interested faculty. We typically cover a variety of topics, such as:

  • Student engagement strategies
  • Course content design and layout
  • Video creation, management, and captioning

Available training options are posted on the Teaching and Learning Center's Professional Development webpage.

eLearn Essentials Training Course

Every instructor who teaches an online or hybrid course at Vol State is required to successfully complete the eLearn Essentials Training Course by the end of their first teaching semester. This is basic training on the learning management system, created by experienced online faculty, and facilitated by Distance Learning in an online, self-paced format. Send an email to elearn@volstate.edu to request to be registered for the course.

TN eCampus Faculty Training

Every Vol State faculty member who teaches or develops our courses via TN eCampus is required to complete specific online training. For instructing, the training is called "iTeach" and for developers, it is the "Course Developer Program (CDP)." These training courses require the faculty to be nominated to the training. If you are interested in teaching or developing eCampus courses, discuss it with your Chair and Dean.

Support and Assistance

Any faculty member may contact eLearn support to request help with eLearn or for course development assistance.

We can also schedule to meet with individuals, small groups, or classes on other e-learning topics and tools. Contact us to arrange an appointment or to invite a member of our staff to your classroom for training and assistance.
