Requesting a DEI Textbook

The DEI program requires key communication between faculty, distributed education, the bookstore, the business office, and students. To help maximize the communication between all of these stakeholders, we ask that faculty that plan to use the DEI program complete the DEI Adoption Approval Request form (link below). DEI requests need to be submitted by the due date below to provide time for the approval process before the bookstore's textbook deadline.

To complete the form you will need:

  • Your Department Chair or Program Director's email address
  • Your Dean's email address
  • A list of ALL of the CRNs that will be participating in the DEI program
  • The price of the DEI textbook
  • Basic textbook info (title, edition, author, ISBN, publisher)

You will be notified once the DEI request has been approved or rejected. The bookstore and the business office will be sent a list of all approved DEI textbooks.

About the Digital Engagement Initiative

Volunteer State Community College and Follett, the college bookstore, have partnered to deliver the Digital Engagement Initiative (DEI). The DEI program is a system-wide initiative of all 13 community colleges in the Tennessee Board of Regents. The primary goal of the DEI program is to minimize student costs for books and materials and provide timely access to materials. DEI materials are added to the course as an additional course fee and no additional materials need to be purchased for that course. Students have the option to opt-out of the DEI program if they prefer to acquire printed books from the bookstore or another vendor. Students will receive an email from Follett with an invitation to the Follett Customer Portal. From this portal, students can review DEI materials and opt-out or in.
