Dropbox

The Dropbox tool is used to submit assignments to your instructor for grading. Instructors can add feedback to the assignments you submit in the Dropbox. Your instructor may allow you to upload more than one file to a single Dropbox folder, but once the file has been submitted it cannot be removed.

You may be able to access Dropbox two different ways:

  1. Through the content area of the course.
  2. Through the Dropbox tool.

Accessing a Dropbox Assignment Through Content

You can view Dropbox assignments within the Content section of your course.

Within the Table of Contents, the Dropbox icon (Dropbox icon) will indicate your professor has added a Dropbox assignment to the module.

  1. Click on the name of the Dropbox assignment from the Table of Contents.
  2. To the right of the Dropbox assignment's title you will see a Status Card in a box. This will tell you if you have Submitted or Not Submitted your assignment to the Dropbox. Once your professor has graded your assignment, your score will show up in the Status Card.
  3. Under Activity Content, you will see Instructions of what your professor expects you to do for the assignment. Read the directions carefully.
  4. Under Evaluation Criteria, you will see how many points the assignment is worth and a rubric if your professor is using one to score your work. *Helpful Hint: If there is a rubric, click on it to review it carefully so you can ensure you meet all of the required criteria for the assignment.
  5. Under Submission Details, you will see information which includes the required submission type, files allowed per submission, allowed file formats, and number of submissions permitted.
  6. Under My Work, click on Add a File to upload a file from your computer, OneDrive files, or Google Drive or drag-and-drop a file into the dashed box. You can also click on Record Audio or Record Video to submit an audio recording or video to your instructor.
  7. If desired, you can leave comments to your instructor, which pertain to your assignment, in the comments box.
  8. Use the blue Submit button to submit your Dropbox assignment to your instructor.
  9. Once scored by your instructor, if feedback is provided, it will be linked in your Status Card and also listed under My Work.

Confirming Your Assignment Submissions

Once you've turned in your assignment you can confirm that it has been uploaded a few different ways:

  • After submitting a file, you will receive a submission receipt email in your Vol State email account.
  • You can click View History on the main dropbox page. Then select the assignment you would like to view from the drop-down menu and click Apply.
  • You can also see that you have submitted a file by looking at the Completion Status column on the main dropbox page. It will indicate the number of submissions you've made and the number of files submitted. You may submit more than one file for an assignment, but there is no way for students to remove files once they have been submitted.

Viewing Instructor Feedback

To view feedback from an instructor on a Dropbox assignment, refer to the Evaluation Status column on the main dropbox page. If your instructor provided feedback, a hyperlink to their feedback will now be displayed as the word Unread. Click on Unread to access the feedback. Once read, the feedback will remain linked in the Evaluation Status column, but will be hyperlinked as Read. Some instructors leave their feedback right in eLearn, some use a rubric in eLearn, and some attach a document with feedback.
