Inserting H5P Interactives in eLearn

Use the steps listed in this article to insert H5P Interactives into a course page in eLearn and learn how to send H5P scores to the eLearn gradebook. 

Inserting H5P Interactives and Sending Scores to the Gradebook

Using H5P in eLearn, faculty now have access to up to 50 interactive content types, advanced AI-powered content generation, and enhanced analytics capabilities, all embedded within eLearn course pages.

To insert a H5P Interactive into a new course page in eLearn, follow the instructions below:

  1. Go to a course in eLearn.
  2. Click Content in the Nav bar.
  3. Click on a module or create a new content module.
  4. In your eLearn module, click Upload/Create, then click Create a Page.
  5. Once you are on the Create a Page page, enter a title for your course page.
  6. Click on the Insert Stuff icon.
  7. Click H5P
  8. In the Insert Stuff dialog box, click the blue Add Content button. Tip: You can search for a content type in the search field or sort the content types using the Recently Used First, Newest First, or A-Z links.
  9. Select the name or image of the content type you would like to add. Tip: If you select the Details button (to the right of the content name) you will be taken to a page where you can read an explanation of the content type, see example screenshots, and view a content demo.
  10. Once you select the name of the content type you would like to add, you can scroll to the top of the H5P dialog box to view a Tutorial and see an Example from H5P.
  11. Complete all the required fields to build the H5P activity.
  12. Click on LTI Settings at the bottom of the dialog box.
  13. Select from the dropdown options of Do not send score, First attempt, Last attempt, and Best attempt for "Choose when to send scores to the LMS". Note: The H5P default setting is students' best attempt on an H5P will be sent to the LMS gradebook.
  14. Click Save and Insert.
  15. Review your content and click Insert.

Linking H5P Interactives to grade items

In order for student scores on an H5P to be sent to the eLearn gradebook, you must follow the steps listed above. 

After the first student attempts the activity, the H5P item will automatically be listed as a grade item in your eLearn gradebook. Grade items are usually at a default of either 10 points or 100 points.

You can then change the points value in Evaluation > Grades > Manage Grades, and you can move the grade item to a particular category or label as bonus if desired.
