For security reasons, starting on October 2, 2026, SMS (text messages) and voice-calls will no longer be permitted as options for usable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) within the Vol State environment. This is in preparation of Microsoft retiring its own SMS and voice-call MFA delivery on February 1, 2027.
The Microsoft Authenticator app (iOS & Android) is recommended as the modern alternative for authentication.
These are instruction on Disabling and Enabling App Lock in Microsoft Authenticator. App Lock is enabled by default on Authenticator, it adds an extra layer of security by prompting the user to insert their PIN every time the Application is opened. However, if users so choose, they can disable App Lock from the Settings Menu in Authenticator.
- Open the Authenticator App, if App Lock is enabled it will prompt you for your PIN or Touch ID.
- If on iOS, click on the Hamburger Icon in the top-left of the screen, as pictured here:
- If on Android, click on the Kebab Icon in the top-right of the screen, as pictured here:
- Go into the Settings Menu, scroll down until you reach the Security Settings, and toggle off App Lock.
