Copy Course Materials

Course Copy Overview

The Import/Export/Copy Components utility lets instructors copy materials from another course. Copying components can save you from having to recreate course resources from scratch and can significantly reduce the amount of work required to create or re-offer a course.

Important Notes:

  • Course copying is a pull function, you always pull the content into a course shell. Start the process in the shell where you want the contents to end up.
  • Course Copying will always ADD components to a course. Generally, the process does not overwrite. Multiple course copies will create doubles or triples of your contents and grade items. If you copy the wrong materials into a course, it is best to email eLearn@volstate.edu and request a course reset. Once they clear out all the contents, then you can start over, copying in the correct materials.

Help, I Made a Mistake!

If you copy the wrong materials into a course or copy the same materials in more than once, it is best to email eLearn@volstate.edu and request a course reset. Once they clear out all the contents, then you can start over, copying in the correct materials.

Select Components - Use this for a partial course copy

"Select Components" allows you to choose specific items to copy over into the course as opposed to the whole course.

  1. Follow steps 1-6 in the previous section.
  2. Click the grey "Select Components" button.
  3. Use the checkboxes and radio buttons to select the items you want to copy.
    • You can choose all items in a category, or choose to select individual items to copy. You will select specific items in step 5.
  4. Click "Continue."
  5. For categories where you wanted to select items, now is your chance to select specific items.
    • Expand plus icons and use the checkboxes to identify which items you want to copy.
  6. Click "Continue."
  7. Click "Finish."

Important Notes:

  • When copying content pages/modules that have Via assessment links or My Media videos, you must also check the "External Learning Tool Links" box, otherwise, the Via links or My Media videos will not work.
  • Use caution when electing to copy more items (using "Copy All Components" or "Select Components") from the same course that has just been copied because duplicates will occur.*
