Chromebook - How To Install and Run Microsoft Office Apps

How to install Office Apps on a Chromebook:

Please note, you cannot install the Windows or Mac desktop versions of Microsoft 365 or Office 2016 on a Chromebook.

  1. Open the Google Play Store and search for the Microsoft Office apps you want to install.

Or you can click on any of these links to download a specific app: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, or OneNote

  2. I will use Outlook in these instructions, although it should be about the same for each application. Deviations might be signing into each application for the first time with your VSCC credentials.

  3. Click Install.

  4. Verify that your device is selected (should be default).

  5. Click Continue. You might get a message to sign in with your Google Account for verification.

  6. Click Next and sign in with your Google Account. The application will download and you will see a pop-up when it completes.

  7. Once your app(s) are installed, click the Launcher on your Chromebook and click on the app to open it.

  8. Click on Get Started after opening application if prompted.

  9. Enter your VSCC email address <yourusername@volstate.edu> at the top and click Continue.

  10. Enter your VSCC credentials in the Volstate Federation Service box and click Sign In.

  11. If asked about adding another account, select Maybe Later. Outlook should then open. If not, click the Launcher on your Chromebook and click on the app to open it.

  12. See Install and set up Office on an Android for details on how to sign in to Office on Android.
