Keeping Up With Your Online and Hybrid Classes

Frequent Tasks - do these about 5 times per week

1. Log into eLearn to check for announcements.

" "College-wide announcements can be found on the main eLearn landing page. But don't stop there, check each class homepage for announcements too. This is where professors will provide important information and updates about your class.

2. Check your Vol State email.

" "    You can check your Vol State email in the My Vol State Portal.
Or by signing into the Microsoft 365 widget on your eLearn landing page.

3. Check for upcoming assignment due dates.

" "Different faculty use different ways of communicating assignment due dates. Here are a few typical places to check for upcoming assignment dates.

  • Check the "Get Started Here" module for a Course Schedule page. If your course has a course schedule, print it off (print button is at bottom of the eLearn page). Mark off assignments and tasks as you complete them. This will help keep you on track.
  • Check the calendar widget on each classes homepage.
  • In the content section of your course, check the Upcoming Assignments folder in the upper left side of the Table of Contents.
  • If you can’t find your assignment due dates, ask your professor about it or ask the Learning Commons academic coaching staff for help.

4. Complete Readings and Assignments.

" "Taking online courses can be challenging. Successful students need to do a lot of time and self-management. Doing your reading and assignments in small regular sessions generally leads to better success than once a week marathons where you try to complete all your work before the due date.
