How to Resolve a Student Appearing as External in Teams

Take these steps when a student's account shows up as an "External" account even though they were signed in properly.

Note: When a student's account shows up as an "External" account this causes the student to not be able and use extra features of the Teams app/web application.

Steps: 

  1. Ask the student to open the Teams desktop client.

  • If they cannot, then have them use the Teams web client.

  1. Create a personal chat with the student.
    • Go to the New Message square.

  • Type their name next to "To:"

  • "Type a message" and send.
  1. Send an invitation to the student over Teams in the created private chat using the + and “Schedule meeting”.

 

Schedule Meeting

  1. Ask if the student has a new profile sign in that is related to an "External" or "Vol State" account.
    • If there is a second profile that is marked as "External", then remove that profile.
  2. The issue should now be resolved.
