How to Resolve a Student Appearing as External in Teams

Steps when a student's account appears as "External".

Note: When a student's account shows up as an "External" account this causes the student to not be able and use extra features of the Teams app/web application.

  1. Ask the student to open the Teams desktop client.

  • If they cannot, then have them use the Teams web client.

  1. Create a personal chat with the student by going to the New Message square.

  • Type their name next to "To:" 
  • Type a message.
  • Send.
  1. Send an invitation to the student over Teams in the created private chat using the + and “Schedule meeting”.

  1. Does the student have a new profile sign in related to an "External" account or their "Vol State" account?
    • Remove the second profile that is marked as "External".
  2. The issue should now be resolved.
