How to Update Your Printer Preferences To Allow For Printing To Letter Size Instead of A4 Size in Certain PDFs

If you receive a document or PDF from an international sender you may find that they have used the International Standard (A4) instead of the North American Standard Letter.

The slight difference can make a difference between being able to complete your print job or not.

  • A4: The international equivalent to U.S. Letter size, measuring 210 x 297 mm (8.27 x 11.7 inches).
  • North American Standard: U.S. Letter (LTR) size, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches.

Steps to print PDF's using the North American Standard instead of A4:

  1. Deselect the Choose paper source by PDF page size in order to print to Letter (8.5 x 11)
    • If not, when the printer job is released at the copier it will fail to print and at the copier.

Uncheck the box next to "Choose paper source by PDF page size".

Print Job Identifies as A4.

  1. You will need to either Cancel the job or hit OK to print to the alternate paper size selected at the device.

Set Print Job to LTR.

  1. Once you confirm that you have selected LTR, for the U.S. Letter size measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, you can select OK to start printing.
