Vol State uses the following grade scale for most courses:
A: 90% to 100%
B: 80 % to < 90%
C: 70 % to < 80%
D: 60% to < 70%
F: < 60%
The default scheme in the eLearn grade book is a percentage in numeric form. Most faculty use the default throughout the semester so students know exactly what percentage they are currently at. However, before you submit final grades you will need to change the grade scheme to a letter based grade. At this point, most faculty will select the 90-80-70-60 Rounded Letter or the 90-80-70-60 Standard Letter grade scheme for most classes.
However, several academic programs as well as learning support courses use different grading scales. Most of these alternate scales have already been created in eLearn. If you are unsure of which scale to use, please consult with your department chair.
Create New Scheme
If you are sure you need to create a new grade scheme, follow these steps:
- On the Schemes page, click New Scheme.
- In the General area, enter the scheme Name.
- In the Ranges area, enter your scheme details. If you do not assign a value in the Assigned Value % field, the Start % is used as the default.
- To add more levels to your scheme, click Add Ranges.
- Click Save and Close.
