Follow the steps below to activate your account for the first time, retrieve your user name, or reset a forgotten password. You will use these credentials for the following systems: campus network (wired and wireless*), D2L/eLearn, Degree Works, e-mail, and the library databases.
*Wireless access is only available to currently enrolled students with an active Vol State user account and should be available by the first day of the semester.
*Student passwords are valid for 2 years.
Retrieving Your Credentials
1. Go to the Set/Reset Password link.
2. Take note of the password requirements on the first screen, and then click Continue.
3. Enter your First Name, Last Name, V Number, and Birth Date, and then click Verify.
Note: If you do not have your V number or you are unable to verify your identity, you will have to contact Records Office at (615) 230-3466.
4. Read the Agreement, and then click continue.
5. Take note of your user name at the top of the page, and create a new password.
Password Reset Instructions
You will be asked for information to verify your identity. If verified, your username will be displayed and you will be asked to create a new password.
Below are the requirements for passwords. Please read all instructions carefully.
There is a time limit, so please have a password in mind before pressing Continue below.
Passwords must contain 16 characters from at least three of the following four categories:
- English uppercase alphabet characters (A-Z)
- English lowercase alphabet characters (a-z)
- Base 10 digits (0-9)
- Non-alphanumeric characters:
- When updating your password using "Sign in with Microsoft" it will allow for: @ # $ % ^ & * - _ ! + = [ ] { } | | : ` , . ? / ‘ ~ “ ( ) ; < > blank space
- When updating your password using "PASSWORD RESET INSTRUCTIONS" it will allow for: ^ * - ! = { } | : ` , . ? / ' ~ " ( ) ; < >

Passwords MUST NOT contain ANY part of your full name, user name or V number.
