How to Change Your Password or Look Up Your User Name

Follow the steps below to activate your account for the first time, retrieve your user name, or reset a forgotten password. You will use these credentials for the following systems: campus network (wired and wireless*), D2L/eLearn, Degree Works, e-mail, and the library databases.

*Wireless access is only available to currently enrolled students with an active Vol State user account and should be available by the first day of the semester.

Retrieving Your Credentials

1. Go to the Set/Reset Password link.

2. Take note of the password requirements on the first screen, and then click Continue.

3. Enter your First Name, Last Name, V Number, and Birth Date, and then click Verify.

Note: If you do not have your V number or you are unable to verify your identity, you will have to contact Records Office at (615) 230-3466.

4. Read the Agreement, and then click continue.

5. Take note of your user name at the top of the page, and create a new password.

Note: If you receive an error message that says, "There is an issue with your account. Contact the IT Help Desk."  Then your password does not meet our security requirements. Revise your password, so it meets our guidelines. See recommendations below for details.

Password Recommendations

  • Use a combination of upper/lower case letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • Avoid using dictionary words - these are easily cracked.
  • Avoid using names of people you know or names of pets.
  • Avoid using your phone number or street address.
  • Avoid using your Social Security number.
